Citrus Research Institute (CRI), as the national scientific research center for citrus fruits, was established in 1960, directly subordinated to Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Ministry of Agriculture, located at Beibei, Chongqing, a scenic town with a national park of Jinyun Mountain. CRI covers an area of 1947 mu (129.8 ha), possesses the third citrus germplasm preservation base in the world.
CRI emphasizes on scientific innovation and extensive techniques for supporting citrus industrial development. Main research fields cover collection, evaluation and preservation of citrus germplasm, functional gene exhumation, new variety breeding, modern cultivation technology, propagation system techniques, pest control and monitoring, processing and storage techniques, economics and information for citrus industry, quality control, security and criteria studies, etc.
